IKEA
COWORKERS FIRST TO KNOW… OR DRAW!
UX Design
IKEA, renowned for its people-centric approach, was looking for a more efficient way of fostering interaction among coworkers as part of their internal communication project. The solution was a dynamic internal portal, not only delivering relevant information and news, but also providing a platform for coworkers to ask questions, submit opinions and impressions, and interact with each other, fostering transparency and accessibility.
The centerpiece of the homepage was an interactive canvas – a digital sheet of paper and a familiar IKEA pencil, brought to life with Flash technology. Coworkers could unleash their creativity by drawing, editing, and sharing their creations directly on the platform. This playful element embodied IKEA’s core values: a “people-first” philosophy and a commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment.
In a uniquely IKEA twist, we created a fun spin-off of their new internal communications slogan “Coworkers First to Know” – promoting openness, easily reachable information, transparency, and a strong information system – by adding “… or Draw!” on the Flash page. This encouraged coworkers to take action, visit the internal portal, have fun, play, and share.
In my capacity, I led the initial creative ideation and developed the UX/UI design proposals, laying the groundwork for a tool that would revolutionize internal communication and redefine how IKEA’s coworkers connect and contribute to the company’s vibrant culture.
