The 2012 re-election campaign for the incumbent Mayor of Belgrade, Serbia, secured a decisive victory despite facing a well-funded opposition backed by renowned team of international advisors and endorsed by prominent figures like Donald Trump and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The campaign’s success was anchored in an experienced team and a data-driven approach. Deep understanding of local governance and political strategy proved invaluable. Regular and thorough research provided a solid foundation of the campaign, with real-time pulse checks on citizen sentiment allowing for constant adjustments.

Various databases were used for micro-targeting across social networks and online advertising platforms for digital outreach, complemented by traditional door-to-door canvassing, phone calls, leafleting, and out-of-home advertising.

Central to our campaign was the message, “Serious times. Serious work. Serious man.” This slogan encapsulated the ethos of our campaign: the acknowledgment of the difficult times we were navigating and the assertion that our candidate was not just ready but uniquely qualified to undertake the serious work required. This message was the cornerstone of our communication, designed to resonate with the electorate’s need for reliable leadership in uncertain times.

My duties as creative director encompassed the inception and development of the campaign’s creative platform and messaging, formulation and execution of creative strategies, and the leadership of dynamic creative teams. Ensuring quality control and communication consistency across all channels, wasn’t just about maintaining the campaign’s aesthetic or thematic coherence; it was about reinforcing trust and confidence in our candidate’s capabilities.

The campaign’s success highlights the effectiveness of a data-driven, multi-channel approach built on a foundation of experience and a strong track record. By blending traditional and modern communication strategies, and leveraging both power of digital micro-targeting and personal touch of proven direct campaigning, we connected with voters and communicated a compelling narrative of continuity and progress, grounded in our candidate’s serious commitment to Belgrade’s future. Our success affirmed the vital bond between leadership and the community it serves – a bond strengthened by trust, transparency, and unwavering dedication to the public good.
